Dr. Sharon Mascall-Dare OAM is an award-winning journalist, broadcaster, and author with 40 years’ experience as a storyteller, specialising in social justice and service culture. A Lieutenant Colonel in the Australian Army Reserve, she has served on operations in Australia and overseas in Iraq, providing her with firsthand insight into the lived experiences of uniformed personnel. Her academic research, including a PhD on immersive storytelling within the context of Anzac, demonstrates her commitment to ethical storytelling and giving ‘voice to the voiceless’. As the founder of the not-for-profit program, StoryRight, she has empowered hundreds of veterans from military, police, and other service backgrounds to share their narratives, facilitating their transition to civilian life. Her work with the BBC, ABC, and the ‘Life on the Line’ podcast demonstrates her commitment to crafting compelling narratives. In 2023, she co-wrote My War with fellow veteran Adam Bullmore, produced and performed by No Strings Attached Theatre of Disability (No Strings) in association with State Theatre Company of South Australia. In 2024, Sharon co-wrote High with Rachel High, also produced and performed by No Strings.
