Senior Specialist Anaesthetist and Clinical Associate Professor

Royal Hobart Hospital and University of Tasmania

Lia is a Senior Specialist Anaesthetist with a subspecialty interest in cardiothoracic anaesthesia. She is a core member of the cardiothoracic team in Tasmania and has mixed public-private practice at the Royal Hobart Hospital and through the Hobart Anaesthetic Group.

Lia is a passionate medical educator with more than 20 years of experience in education, training and simulation. She is Chair of the Tasmanian Anaesthetic Training Program; project lead for the innovative Tasmanian Anaesthetic Simulation, Education and Training Network (TASETN) and Director of Medical Education and Training at the Royal Hobart Hospital. She contributes extensively to the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists with many committee and leadership roles. Lia is Chair of ANZCA’s Curriculum Review Committee and is currently leading a comprehensive review and redesign of the ANZCA curriculum and training program.

Lia was humbled to receive an ANZCA Council Citation for services to anaesthesia and the college in education and leadership, and as a dedicated advocate to improving anaesthesia training and practice in Tasmania.

Outside of work, Lia is a Mum, tea connoisseur and family dog walker who likes a good chat.
