Joanne Farrell has worked in the mining industry from 1981 -2020. She retired from Rio Tinto from the position of Group Executive Health, Safety and Environment and Managing Director of Australia.
Since retiring Joanne has joined the Boards of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the WA Museum, the Senate of the University of Western Australia, the Australia China Business Council and the Senior Advisory Group for the Indigenous Voice to Parliament. She is a member of Chief Executive Women, the Business Council of Australia, the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the WA Institute of Management.
Joanne has held previous Board positions in the Arts, Training, Community Development, and the ASX Company, Energy Resources Australia.
She has a Bachelor degree in Science, majoring in Psychology and Economics, from the University of Western Australia and a Graduate Diploma in Management from Curtin University. Joanne also completed Advanced Management Programmes at University of New South Wales and at London Business School.
Joanne’s career has included leadership roles in Human Resources, Government and Community Relations, Health, Safety, Security and Environment and Communications. She has worked in most States of Australia, the UK and the USA.
